VoIP E911 (Enhanced 911) Access and Fail-over

Dialing for emergency assistance is a primary concern of any telephony solution. The ability to pick up the telephone and dial 911 to reach emergency personnel is a critical requirement. On the other side of the consideration is what the E-911 operator sees on their display when someone calls from the campus. The operator will see a number and the decision is what number they will see and how it will coordinate to a physical location. Some configuration options include:

• DID number associated with the particular extension being used to dial 911

• The Trunk DID number assigned by the PSTN company

• A DID assigned to certain locations within the campus

The decision will depend upon how precise a location is needed in emergencies. The more exact the information given during the call; the faster the response will be from emergency care personnel.
